Don’t worry, here are the step by step instructions that will help you to install the theme easily.

To use our themes you need to have WordPress installed and configured on your server.

You can find instructions on installing WordPress by going to this page

WordPress has it’s own panel for easy theme installation, but sometimes this wont work.
In this post I will be explaining both WordPress installation and alternative FTP installation.

Find the correct file

For both installations first we need to make sure that we are using correct file, and for this example I will be using Exclusy theme
Depending on where you have purchased our themes follow one of the instructions bellow:

Themes Kingdom
If you purchased the theme from Themes Kingdom there is no need to search further, downloaded zip file is the one you need so you can skip to installation.

ThemeForest
If you have purchased your theme on ThemeForest your downloaded file should look similar to this themeforest-4025789-exclusy-responsive-portfolio-wordpress-theme.zip
You will need to unzip this file so you get ‘Exclusy_theme’ folder.
Inside this folder you will now see ‘Documentation’, ‘PSD’ and ‘WP’ folders.
Go to ‘WP’ folder where you will see ‘exclusy.zip’ file, this is the file we need so you can now continue with the installation.

Mojo-Themes
Themes purchased on Mojo-Themes will look something like this after download 40b6f9abb06fc1e01d53be1f2320c960.zip
You will need to unzip this file so you get ‘Exclusy_theme’ folder.
Inside this folder you will now see ‘Documentation’, ‘PSD’ and ‘WP’ folders.
Go to ‘WP’ folder where you will see ‘exclusy.zip’ file, this is the file we need so you can now continue with the installation.

Installing theme from WordPress

Installing theme from WordPress is realy easy and it’s going to take about one minute of your time.

To access your WordPress admin section simply type /wp-admin after your url, for example, if your site address is http://www.example.com you need to type in http://www.example.com/wp-admin
Now type in your username and password and you are in.

Now that you are on Dashboard panel you will need to go to Appearance > Themes like on this screenshot:

You now need to access your ‘Install Theme’ tab which is right next to ‘Manage Themes’ tab.

Once you are on ‘Install Theme’ click on ‘Upload’ link.

Now you need to click on ‘Choose File’ button and open the theme zip file I mentioned before.

After you have selected the correct file click on ‘Install Now’ button and wait for theme to upload.

When the download is complete simply click on ‘Activate’ link and you are done, you can now start using your theme.

Now that you have completed the installation you can check theme documentation for help with using the theme or you can import XML file to get started.

Installing the theme using FTP

Todays WordPress themes have lot more functions which affects the theme size, some of the servers won’t allow you upload files larger than 2MB and therefore you won’t be available to install the theme in traditional way.
Luckily we can upload the theme directly to server and then just activate it from your WordPress admin section.
First you will need to unzip the exclusy.zip file mentioned before so that you get ‘Exclusy’ folder which needs to be uploaded to your server.

Next you will need to install some software that will allow you to connect to your server and upload the files.
For this tutorial I will be using FileZilla, which is a free software that works on Windows, Mac and Linux platforms.
You can download FileZilla from their official page

After you have installed and opened FileZilla connect to your server by filling in the fields on top of the window, like on this screenshot:

On the left side you will see folders on your local machine and on the right side you will see server conten.
On the right side locate your WordPress installation folder, in this folder you will see three folders, ‘wp-admin’, ‘wp-content’, ‘wp-includes’ and bunch of other files that we are not intrested in right now.
What you are looking for is ‘wp-content’ folder.
Inside ‘wp-content’ go to ‘themes’ folder where you will see all your installed themes.
Now on the left side navigate to folder where you unziped theme file.
Once you have found your theme folder simply right click on it and then left click on ‘Upload’

When the upload is complete access the WordPress admin section by going to http://www.example.com/wp-admin

Once you have accessed your admin section go to Appearance > Themes panel

You should be able to see the theme now and all you need to do is click on ‘Activate’ link below the theme preview image,

What are we going to do in this tutorial?

We will create an additional field in the administration. First what you will do is to download our theme – we will be working on the Novelti theme this time. Similar principle can be used in a number of our  themes.

This tutorial is recommended to all who have little experience in PHP or WordPress.

Lets pull up our sleeves and begin

Download and install the Novelti theme, if you don’t know how to do it you probably should not even be here :-) For instructions on downloading and installing wordpress theme check out the theme and wordpress documentation.

functions.php
Open functions.php file located in the main theme folder.

What’s functions.php for? We use it for loading scripts, loading css, functions definition, loading widgets, defining sidebars, making sql tables etc…

Also, in functions.php we load theme-settings.php file that we will be using today. You can find it within the ‘/inc/’ folder.

We will not bore you with details on this file but this is where the all magic happens, real magic.

In this file we use everything in order to have our administration work properly – datepicker, color picker, image upload etc…

The part we are interested starts at the line 448. From that line we define all the fields that might be used in our administration (input field, textarea, radio button, select, checkbox, datepicker, colorpicker,…).

At the start of the theme-settings.php file you might see that we have included file named admin-settings.php. In that file you can find an array of fields which we define and they will show up in the administration panel.

Let’s take for example ‘header logo’, check out the comments in code what field does what

At the bottom there is a full list of all field types that our administration has.

Let’s do something

What we will be doing is creating the text input field in the administration and after that echo it.

Let’s go back to admin-settings.php where we will be adding array into the general options.

At the beginning you will see General Options array and child arrays starting at

Now that we have created an array, check it in the administration if it’s there and enter some value and hit ‘Update Settings’.

In order to get the value use the get_theme_option() function

tk_theme_name is  a constant that represent name of the theme

general is the ID of a parent array that our array is in

header_text is an ID of an array we defined inside the general array

Now that you understand how to get the value, all you have to do is echo the variable on the front end of the theme like this:

echo $header_text;
